1. Pick a list of 10 stocks that you are interested in making an investment in
2. Initially you will invest in just 5 of these stocks in the first year, watching the other 5 on the list
3. The investment will be £2,000 per stock with a maximum of £4,000 over the 10 year period
4. For the next 9 years a minimum of £3,000 will be invested pa
5. If possible the dividend income will be re-invested; if not used for every day living

If dividends re-invested it should be possible to purchase a further 2 holdings during the second and third year; bringing the total to 9 holdings. After that the 10th holding can be purchased or alternatively start making the second purchase of any previously purchased companies stock. (This is why you should make a list of 10 to 12 companies initially to watch from the outset)

You can do this by going here My Portfolios - https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/portfolio/p_2/view/v1
'Add Symbol' of the companies that you are interested in - 10 to 12.

We would suggest that if you are ten to twenty years away from retirement that you look for high yielding shares between 6% and 7% in the market that you are interested in investing in. A portfolio of £40,000 yielding 6% would give you an additional income of £2,400 pa - £80,000 an additional income of £4,800 (under the current £5,000 allowed free of tax in the UK). This should allow a pensioner with the minimum state pension a better standard of living in retirement.
