With
threats evolving through the "hacker industry" more quickly than ever
before, adaptive security architecture is going to be one of the top
tech trends in the coming months as companies protect their
infrastructure from emerging threats, said Deven Parekh, managing
director at Insight Venture Partners. "People are getting into networks
in a way that has become much more prevalent," said Parekh. "It's a cat
and mouse game. Finding next generation technologies to prevent that is
going to be key." Insight Venture Partners was founded in 1995 and has
raised over $13 billion, investing in more than 250 growth-stage
companies worldwide. Notable previous companies in Parekh's portfolio
have included Buddy Media which was acquired by Salesforce , Tumblr,
which was acquired by Yahoo! and Chegg . The next big tech trend
investors and CEO alike should be watching this fall is "customer
success/retention". Parekh said that software-as-a-service (SaaS) is no
longer a single-company solution now that new services are cropping up
more quickly than before. "Software used to be bought once with an
upfront licensing fee, but as we've moved to a subscription model the
customer gets to make a decision every year as to whether or not they
are going to renew. So making sure you have a happy customer - which was
not always the case - is more important than ever," said Parekh. Legacy
software disruption is another trend Parekh is highlighting. He said
the cloud is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to disrupting
traditional software and incumbents cannot grow complacent. Fraud
prevention is yet another area to watch, according to Parekh. Having
next generation technology to make safe transactions online as a vendor
or a buyer is a trend that is "here to stay". Finally, Parekh said
connected ecosystems, or the so-called internet of things where devices
communicate with each other, will be a place investors can score profits
as the technologies develop. "Everyone likes to focus on the smart
home, but remember each one of those devices is an IP address," said
Parekh.
