Korea's biggest automakers, Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors,... have agreed to pay out more than 41 million dollars to 33 states in the U.S. to settle an investigation over their fuel economy ratings.
U.S. legal officials say Hyundai and Kia will settle the state consumer protection claims, but have not admitted to violating laws.
The automakers restated mileage on more than one-point-two million vehicles in the United States in 2012, after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency questioned their mileage figures.
The companies paid some three-hundred million dollars to the U.S. government in 2014 as penalties and reimbursed 75-percent of their customers.
The settlement payment is expected to be made in December.
