Online
travel bookings are expected to hit a fresh high during Friday’s
Singles’ Day, the major online shopping festival event initiated by
China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba. One reason for the tourism boom is new
technology such as Virtual Reality, which allows travelers to explore
destinations before they click the reservation button and hit the road.
Online leisure company Tuniu and insiders at the IDC Technology
Conference 2016 expect new technologies to shape the travel business in
2017. Chinese tourist numbers have soared over the past two decades,
with travelers taking 120 million outbound trips in 2015, a 12 percent
jump compared to the previous year.
