Ulyukaief: the first russian minister arrested since the fall of the
soviet union 25 years ago...the head of the economy ministry - is
suspected of corruption:last month, Ulyukaief authorized state-owned
energy group Rosneft to buy a majority stake in another state-owned
company Bashneft.a 5.2 billion dollar acquisition.investigators say - he
agreed to the deal - after receiving a 2-million dollar bribe.◄br /►
***the acquisition came after months of wrangling among russian
ministers and it exposed deep divisions in the cabinet ...Prime minister
Dmitry MedvIEdev wanted the company to go to private
investors.meanwhile President Vladimir Putin is close to Rosnef's CEO -
Igor Sechin - seen here on the right - who pushed for the
acquisition.after the arrest - MedvIEdev asked for a thorough
investigation.OnceUlyukaief is charged - he could face a jail sentence
of up to 15 years.Rosneft says the Bashneft deal won't be jeopardized by
the minister's arrest -
