Some flowers are not only good to look at,... but are also rich in nutrients including various vitamins and minerals.

An increasing number of people are adding flowers to their meals as they are known to help slow down the aging process and prevent various diseases.

Kim Hyo-sun reports. For lunch, a dish topped with pretty flowers,... along with a fresh salad, more colorful than most.

Some flowers can be mixed with rice and enjoyed with vegetable wraps.

And they aren't just pleasing to the eye,... they also boast a unique flavor.

"It has a slight flower scent, and a slightly bitter taste. I think it's best for spring when people have more delicate appetites."

There are some 20 kinds of flowers used in food,... ranging from carnations and roses to English daisies.

Compared to fruit,... these flowers contain up to 10 times of polyphenol, known to help deter aging,... and flavonoid, which is effective in preventing lifestyle-related diseases.

Edible flowers are also rich in nutrients including 12 types of vitamins and minerals.

Above all,... they're free from harmful substances because they're grown organically.

"We have to make sure the environment is free from dust and ensure these flowers do not absorb substances that are detrimental to the human body. They are always grown organically."

Growing your own flowers and adding them to your daily meals can also be beneficial.

"When you grow your own edible flowers, you can experience the joy of growing and eating them. I think the related industries will grow in the near future."

However, be sure to stay away from eating ornamental or wild flowers not grown for culinary purposes... because those can contain pesticides or even be poisonous.
