The King of Spain Felipe VI and his family presided over the launch of the latest addition to the country's navy - Isaac Peral S-81 submarine - at a ceremony in Cartagena on Thursday. "We have gone through difficult times, but we have put a lot of strength and enthusiasm into this project together with Navantia [the producer] so that it could go ahead," said Defence Minister Margarita Robles, speaking at the event.
Isaac Peral, named after a famous Spanish engineer, is one of the largest non-nuclear submarines in the world.
The 1.8 billion euro vessel is expected to step up the capabilities of Spain's navy.
