In a complete reversal of the first Walter Hayes heat, Neil Maclennan took advantage of a drying track to win an orderly race.
Kevin Mills Racing’s Spectrum driver Maclennan brought home a second heat win for the team, overhauling team-mate Michael Moyers’, also a Spectrum, in a close and tactical battle.
Moyers had started from pole, but Maclennan had no intention of
letting him get away and stayed on his tail, passing on the second lap.
Moyers, a two-time Hayes champion, took the place back very quickly but
was not able to match Maclennan for outright speed. The National
champion pulled away once he got ahead and although he was never far
