Ceres Power (CWR) has been chosen as a partner by US giant Cummins in a contract
for the US Department of Energy to develop fuel cells for data centres.
Phil Caldwell, Ceres’s chief executive, told Proactive not only is it a significant commercial step for the AIM-listed company it is also a huge endorsement of its steel oxide fuel cell technology.
Data centres, used for cloud computing, already account for 2% of all electricity usage but consumption is growing fast and fuel cells are seen as an ideal way to power them.
The deal, worth US$2.6mln to Ceres, takes it into a new application and a new blue chip area said Caldwell.
