Taliban insurgents have been rapidly capturing territory in Afghanistan as nearly all remaining international troops withdraw. In the past few months the militants have taken vast rural areas, multiple border crossings and now a number of Afghan cities. Journalist Secunder Kermani was granted rare access to visit the group – meeting fighters stationed just a short drive away from one of the country’s largest cities. There are concerns over how long the Afghan government will be able to fend them off before they are completely overtaken.
