#F1 - F1® The Movie World Premiere: Apple TV. TheMovie only in theaters June 27. stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem

18 June 2025

Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team's hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace.

But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.

F1 also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem, and has been shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport. Kosinski directs from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger.

The film is executive produced by Daniel Lupi. Collaborating with Kosinski behind the scenes are his creative team, including director of photography Claudio Miranda, production designers Mark Tildesley and Ben Munro, editor Stephen Mirrione, costume designer Julian Day, casting director Lucy Bevan and composer Hans Zimmer.

Monaco has long been a special race - where anything can happen, and drivers thread the barriers with zero room for error. Following the global explosion of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Formula One did well to not just safeguard the sport, but safely plan and deliver 17 races in just 23 weeks. But, while that calendar lacked street races, this weekend sees the sport return not just to the road, but arguably the world’s greatest road course, Monaco, for the first time since 2019. 2021 is limbo for Haas - a tough, transition season - with no update parts coming for the car, and no hope for points on merit. Its sole focus, 2022, the new car and developing the drivers who will race it. That is: Russian Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher, who is son of seven-time F1 World Champion Michael - with the strategy behind it not just for the long-term financial health of the American squad, but also a shot to catapult up the grid. FP3 Highlights - FP2 - FP1

This weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix marks a celebrated homecoming for two-time Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso, with the 39-year-old top gun racing an F1 car on home soil for the first time since 2018, in this - year one of his comeback.

But, it’s going to be something of a muted celebration, not only with the event held behind closed doors - without Alonso’s legion of fans - due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. And with the Spaniard unable to fight at the front, his Renault-powered Alpine A521 still recovering from an undercooked aero package: a result of windtunnel issues over the European winter. Qualifying Highlights

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is one of the most enduring sights on the F1 calendar - not just as Spanish Grand Prix host, and a former home of the sports’ pre-season testing program. But, as one of the busiest tracks in the world - where drivers who make it to F1 will have logged thousands of laps in the junior categories.

The circuit has also seen some of the sport’s blockbuster moments, with the biggest in recent memory between then-Mercedes’ teammates Sir Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in 2016. The pair crashed into each other on the run down to turn four on lap one, forcing both out, which didn’t go down well with Silver Arrows team boss Toto Wolff at the time.

Romain Grosjean will step back into a Formula 1 car for the first time since his Bahrain fireball accident when he gets a chance to demo a 2019 Mercedes at the French Grand Prix, and then spend a full day testing it in the days after the race. It's a great gesture from Mercedes, but given Grosjean never raced for the team in F1, why has the world champion team been the one to step up to offer Grosjean this special chance? Scott Mitchell explains how this came together
