A pipeline worker has been killed and several others injured after a gas explosion in rural Alabama which could lead to energy shortages.
Colonial Pipeline Company confirmed that a man had died and that five others were taken to hospital for treatment after the blast, which was close to where a line burst and leaked thousands of gallons of gasoline last month.
The explosion near Helena, to the south of Birmingham, sent flames and thick smoke soaring over the forest and Colonial said that it had shut down its main pipeline in the area, prompting fresh fears of a shortage.
