Ukraine - Will Russia be prosecuted for war crimes committed in Ukraine? | The Stream | Al Jazeera

18 July 2022

It has been almost 150 days since Russia invaded Ukraine in an assertion of strength that sent shockwaves through the world. Russia now controls more than 20% of the country. Recently, the heaviest fighting has focused recently on the industrial Donbas region in the east. Moscow-backed troops say they’re closing in on their next target of Siversk.

Last week a midday missile strike in the city of Vinnytsia killed 23 people, including three children under the age of 10. The attack coincided with a meeting of Ukraine's top war crimes prosecutor and European judicial authorities to coordinate investigations into more than 20,000 war crimes allegedly committed by the Russians.

Meanwhile, talks aimed at freeing up grain exports from Ukraine are also set to continue.
