The
CEO of British-based Oxy Reckitt Benckiser has formally apologized over
its toxic humidifier disinfectants, which claimed hundreds of lives in
Korea.
In a statement Wednesday, Rakesh Kapoor said he was sincerely
sorry for the pain and irreparable damage Korean consumers have
suffered.
He then expressed regret over not being able to prevent the damages, drawing a clear line of responsibility.
The CEO made the remarks during a visit to Britain by a special Korean parliamentary committee probing the scandal.
It marks the first time the company's upper management has apologized to the victims and their families for the scandal.
The
British firm had earlier outlined a compensation plan, but the victims
have said the company must provide reasonable compensation in a
transparent manner.
