The southern city of Mykolaiv has found itself on the front line of the fight for almost all of the war thus far, with nearby Kherson occupied by Russia. 

The uptick in strikes have added another element to deal with for a city that has known little but tension for months.

FRANCE 24’s reporters Luke Shrago, Taline Oundjian and Achraf Abid went to Mykolaiv to find out just how its residents - and defenders - were coping.

Ukrainian officials say hundreds of civilians were in a bomb shelter beneath a theatre hit by an airstrike in the besieged city of Mariupol. An official in the mayor's office says there are survivors, but there's no word on how many.

The Times (14 March 2022 7 hours ago) - More than 2,100 residents of Mariupol have died since Russia invaded, the authorities there said yesterday, as aid workers warned of a “worst-case scenario”.

Russian artillery and aircraft have bombarded the southeastern port city for a week, leaving residents cowering in shelters, often without heat or electricity.
