It's being called "Buy Korea"... foreign investors have been aggressively snapping up Korean stocks over the past several months.

The appetite for local shares has pushed the Kospi up to heady new heights.
Kim Ji-yeon has the numbers.

Korea's Financial Supervisory Service says foreign buying continued for the fifth consecutive month in April,... helping the recent rally in the local market.

Data released on Wednesday shows offshore investors bought a net one-point-one-billion U.S. dollars worth of Korean stocks last month.

It also shows the investors are mainly from London, Luxembourg and Australia.

This places European investors second following the U.S. in terms of foreign holdings of Korean stocks... with American investors holding nearly 42-percent of all foreign holdings,... worth more than 203 billion dollars.

Foreign buyers bought a combined 805 million dollars of stocks on Korea's main benchmark KOSPI in April... and 268 million dollars on the tech-heavy KOSDAQ.

Continued foreign buying has boosted the KOSPI this week... edging it ever closer to the record two-thousand-300 level.

During mid-day trading on Wednesday, the KOSPI was at 2-thousand 292... down around zero-point-one percent from the previous session.

Sectors related to cosmetics, electronics and leisure saw a bump... while those in gaming software, life insurance and the banking sector are on a downward trend.
