The
Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab
fighters, has captured Tabqa from the Islamic State of Iraq and the
Levant after nearly seven weeks of fighting.
The US-led coalition praised the capture of the strategic Syrian city and dam from ISIL, saying the attack destroys the armed group's coordination hub.
They are now concentrating on clearing landmines around the dam, as well hunting out ISIL fighters.
Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford reports from Gaziantep.
