Investment - #CNBC #amazon What’s Behind The Hot Emerging Market Of Amazon Seller Aggregators: CNBC

7 August 2021

Amazon aggregators have become a hot new trend in the start-up world. Two of them, Thrasio and Perch, have reached unicorn status, raising billions in capital to buy up mom-and-pop Amazon sellers. Aggregators then use software and marketing prowess to grow the brands, sometimes with great success. Aggregators threw exclusive after parties and offered free Teslas for successful referrals in an effort to woo new acquisitions at a recent Amazon seller conference in Las Vegas. CNBC was on the show floor to talk to aggregators, sellers, and former Amazon insiders about the trend.

#CNBC How Amazon Is Trying To Stop Package Theft (1 in 5)

Package theft is at an all-time high, with 1.7 million packages stolen or lost every day in the U.S. As Amazon drives more shopping online, Prime members say they receive on average 51 packages a year, and one in three Americans report having at least one package stolen, resulting in $25 million of lost goods and services every day. In response, Amazon has installed secure locker locations in 900 U.S. cities and now offers Amazon Key, which allows customers to give remote access to delivery drivers so they can leave packages inside the home, garage or car trunk. UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service also offer a growing number of storefronts where packages can be picked up. Other solutions include video doorbells by companies like Google, start-ups experimenting with advanced package tracking, and lockboxes for individual homes.

Investment - #CNBC #Amazon #PrimeVideo Why Amazon Is Going After Netflix: CNBC

Published on 13 March 2019

When Amazon pursued the rights to a “Lord of the Rings” series in 2017, the company knew it would have to overcome some major obstacles to lure the J.R.R. Tolkien estate to its video-streaming platform. Amazon was a relative newcomer in video, with no track record of shepherding a blockbuster series. HBO, meanwhile, could tout its long history of hits, most notably “Game of Thrones,” a similarly epic series based on fantasy novels with a rabid fan base. Netflix, with more than 100 million subscribers, pioneered the on-demand model with hits such as “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black.” And not to be ignored, Apple was also in on the negotiations to acquire the rights for the upcoming TV show, according to people familiar with the matter.
Amazon didn’t have much by way of Hollywood cred. What it had was the richest person on the planet in CEO Jeff Bezos, a big “Lord of the Rings” fan, who was promising the Amazon Studios team a huge budget to nab the series, a prequel to Tolkien’s “The Fellowship of the Ring.” But money alone wasn’t going to separate Amazon from the pack — Amazon’s $250 million offer wasn’t even the highest bid for the show’s rights, according to a person familiar with the matter. The ultimate selling point, according to people with knowledge of the negotiations, related to Amazon’s original business from over two decades ago: books. The Tolkien estate was convinced that in promoting the series, Amazon could sell truckloads of Tolkien’s fantasy novels, including “The Hobbit” and “The Silmarillion” as well as “The Lord of the Rings.” During meetings with the Tolkien estate and publisher HarperCollins, Amazon’s Sharon Tal Yguado, who was hired from Fox in 2017, demonstrated a near encyclopedic knowledge of Tolkien’s characters, stories and geography, said the people, who asked not to be named because the talks were private. Amazon’s ability to connect content to commerce won over the Tolkien estate. But just in case, to seal the deal, Amazon sent representatives of the Tolkien estate and its law firm, Greenberg Glusker, several crates of brand-new Amazon Echo speakers. Tolkien’s people were flattered, though they also joked that Amazon delivered the home assistants to eavesdrop on the negotiations, two of the people said. The “Lord of the Rings” series will start production in the next two years. The huge investment in a TV series has made Hollywood wonder just how much Bezos will spend on content. So far, Amazon has dabbled across the TV spectrum, with original content such as “Lord of the Rings,” a growing back catalog of movies and shows, as well as live sports from the National Football League and the Premier League. Just last month, Bezos was spotted chatting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at the Super Bowl, a reminder that Amazon has several opportunities in the coming years to make a big splash in America’s most lucrative sport. Meanwhile, The New York Post reported Thursday that Amazon is nearing a $3.5 billion deal to acquire the YES network, the regional sports network in New York that carries Yankees games.

#CNBC #Target #Amazon How Target(TGT) Is Challenging Amazon (AMZN)

Published on 6 October 2018

As it redesigns its stores, Target is getting back to offering fashion-forward merchandise at decent prices. If it can keep that momentum going, it will help set the company apart from its peers including Walmart, Amazon and Kroger. Nestled inside Target's Minneapolis headquarters, racks of unfinished clothes line the walls. In another area, sketches and splotches of color are hung up for inspiration. Walk down the hallway, and it looks like you've arrived at an HGTV set with bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens on display. This is the creative hub of Target's in-house brands — a key part of the retailer's turnaround.

https://www.marketscreener.com/TARGET-CORPORATION-12291/ Scattered throughout, there are chemical mixing labs and an alcove with a handful of 3-D printers. About 550 employees work together to bring roughly 40 private labels, such as Goodfellow & Co. for men's clothing and Up & Up for cleaning supplies, to life.

https://www.marketscreener.com/AMAZON-COM-12864605/ Meetings take place around a dining table in Target's Made By Design room, which is decked out with kitchen appliances and other utensils from that label. And "Targeters," as they're sometimes referred to, arrive back from fashion shows or visits to overseas shops, toting items they've collected on their journeys. Each week, so-called kid influencers are ushered in and out of the Cat & Jack room to offer feedback on clothing styles being developed for the coming year.

Should the Government Dismantle Amazon? TheStreet: Investing Strategies

Published on 14 Sep 2018

It's Friday, but the market is still very much open for business. Amazon Deserves More Scrutiny? Jeff Bezos obviously thinks the government should leave Amazon alone. "It is really important that politicians and others understand the value that big companies bring in and not demonize them," Bezos told David Rubenstein, president of the Economic Club of Washington and co-founder of PE firm Carlyle, at an event Thursday before about 1,550 people at the Washington Hilton. "They shouldn't vilify big companies. The reason is simple -- there are certain things only big customers can do. I know what Amazon could do when we were 10 people; know what could do when we were 1,000 and 10,000, now we are half a million." Hat tip to our Ron Orol for reporting on this one. Amazon's growing reach into society -- and the pricing power it affords -- means it's likely to be slapped with some form of regulation within the next 10 years. Points out Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson: "Despite providing immense value for consumers, new readings of antitrust law that favor a structural view rather than consumer-benefit view could bring Amazon into focus. We think precedent will be upheld but near-to-medium-term noise from the FTC may cause air-pockets for the stock. Separately, concerns about the USPS under the Trump administration may leave some investors less optimistic about the company's future prospects, but Amazon continues to build its own last-mile delivery, negating long-term impact." Sears in Terrible Shape Sears Holdings reported a net loss of $4.68 a share, worse than the year ago loss of $2.33 a share. The adjusted EBITDA loss tallied a whopping $112 million versus a loss of $66 million a year ago. Considering Sears has been aggressively closing stores and consolidating its operations to cut costs, the loss is a disappointment. The company's cash levels are also dangerously low.
