FTSE 100 opened lower, losing 40 points to 7,509. A fall in the oil price weighed on the index, with heavyweights BP and Shell both declining at the open. Vodafone agreed on the potential sale of its Hungarian business for €1.8bn. 4iG Public and Corvinus Zrt, a Hungarian state holding company, are the would-be buyers. Households with smart meters could be paid for turning off high-energy appliances to help avoid blackouts. The National Grid Electricity System Operator is understood to be preparing plans. Sony PlayStation is being sued for £5bn. Nine million claimants believe they were ripped off with overpriced games and in-game purchases. Base Resources posted record profits for the year to end-June on higher prices for mineral sands. The Australian-based miner plans to pay a final dividend of A$3.0 cents per share. Eden Research said first-half trading was in line with expectations with revenues up 33%. The group, a specialist in sustainable biopesticides and plastic-free crop protection, said product sales were up 54%.  Rosslyn Data announced its first enterprise customer through its partnership with Chain IQ. Rosslyn will supply its procurement analytics platform to a tier one Japanese bank on a five-year contrac

London’s blue-chip index lost 76 points as it opened for the start of the week, down to 7,120. Concerns over further interest rate hikes from the US Federal Reserve have caused jitters in the market. Wizz Air said it expects a return to profit in the next quarter despite a “challenging macro and operational background.” The airline said revenue per available seat kilometre will continue to improve on the back of higher fares and growing load factors. Klarna is expected to announce it secured funding from existing investors and new backers which could include Canada's largest pension fund. At US$800m, the size of the funding round is larger than previously anticipated. Uber is at the centre of a major scandal after documents were leaked. It is alleged Uber lobbied officials to drop investigations, used a "kill switch'' to thwart law enforcement and considered exploiting violence against its drivers to gain public sympathy. Among the small caps, Thor Mining completed its drilling programme at its Ragged Range gold and nickel project in Pilbara. The drilling samples have been sent to a lab in South Australia, with assay results expected to return by September. OptiBiotix struck a commercial deal with one of the world leaders in flavourings and ingredients. Its deal with Firmenich will see the two companies develop new products containing OptiBiotix's SweetBiotix low-calorie alternative to sugar. Induction Healthcare said it signed an agreement System C Healthcare, which will sell Induction’s Zesty engagement platform. Zesty allows people to manage their hospital appointments, as well as view their letters and clinical records.

Investment - #FTSE opens flat with UK shop prices growing at fastest rate in May in over a decade | Proactive

FTSE 100 opened flat as traders started to wind down ahead of the four-day Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. There were a few deals but the blue chip index edged down 5 to 7,601.   Sports Direct owner Frasers Group has bought Missguided for £20mln after it collapsed into administration. The online fashion retailer suffered from supply chain problems, rising freight costs and growing competition from rivals.   Shop prices grew at their fastest rate in May in over a decade. Retail price inflation was 2.8%, spurred on by accelerating food inflation, with experts warning it will get “worse before it gets better.” Tullow Oil and Capricorn Energy have agreed to merge to create “a leading African energy company with a material and diversified asset base and a portfolio of investment opportunities delivering visible production growth.” Capricorn is valued at £657mln through the deal and its shareholders will own 47% of the enlarged company.   The chief executive of DWS, the asset manager controlled by Deutsche Bank, has resigned following a second police raid on its offices in Germany in a month on greenwashing allegations. US authorities are already investigating the bank for similar accusations.   Open Orphan said its hVIVO subsidiary has inked a £14.7mln influenza deal with an existing client. The unnamed global top-five pharma company has engaged the contract research group to carry out a characterisation study before testing its vaccine on healthy volunteers. Among the small caps, Feedback expects revenue for the year just ended to be “materially ahead” of market expectations after its strong interim trading momentum continued into the second half.  Progress with its flagship product Bleepa as well as additional technology licence fees arising from its partnership with Imaging Engineering are driving sales.

Investment UK - #FTSE starts week on a high as oil prices rise with heavyweights BP and Royal Dutch Shell on the up | Proactive

The FTSE 100 started on the front foot as the higher oil price pushed higher two of its major constituents, BP PLC (LSE:BP.) and Royal Dutch Shell plc (LSE:RDSA). London’s leading index advanced 37 points to 7,089 in early trading. The UK is considering suspending competition law to improve fuel deliveries to petrol stations. The move comes after days of panic buying as several pumps across the country had to close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LSE:RR.) has made a “major win” after the US Air Force selected it to power one of its jets for the next 30 years. The group will make 650 engines at its Indianapolis facility. boohoo group plc (LSE:BOO) has published a list of 1,100 factories it works with around the world. The fast-fashion retailer is reviewing its ethical standards after the scandal at its Leicester suppliers last year. Among the small caps, Futura Medical PLC (AIM:FUM) has inked its third major commercial agreement for MED3000, its fast-acting erectile dysfunction gel. Labatec Pharma will oversee the regulatory sign-off of the product in the Gulf Co-operation Council region as well as Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. Incanthera plc (AQSE:INC) has filed two trademark names for the commercial use of its skin cancer formulation, currently identified as Sol. FTSE 100 was in good cheer ahead of the US non-farm numbers and England’s quarter final on Saturday. London’s blue-chip index rose by 28 to 7,153 with the consensus for around 700,000 jobs to have been added in the US last month.xx 

 

Sir Richard Branson has gazumped Amazon boss Jeff Bezos plan to be the first billionaire in space. The bearded tycoon announced his Virgin Galactic ship will take him up on 11 July or nine day ahead of Bezos’ planned trip into orbit.

 

Ryanair’s passenger numbers jumped to 5.3mln in June from 1.8mln in May with the airline carrier saying travel is starting to recover within the EU thanks to the vaccine roll-out. WizzAir carried 1.5mln passengers from 500,00o a month earlier.

 

Oil prices hit a new two-year high despite confusion over the outcome of yesterday’s OPEC+ meeting. Brent crude rose to US$75.50 even though the UAE has apparently vetoed a plan to raise production by 400,000 barrels a day.

 

 Confectionery giant Haribo said driver shortages might stop its sweets reaching the UK. The German-based firm is the latest to flag the problem, with hauliers saying the UK might be short as many as 100,000 truckers due to Brexit and Covid restrictions.

 

Among the small caps. I3 Energy PLC (LON:I3E) said it is "very pleased" with the outcome of the drilling operation at its first Marten Hills Clearwater well in Canada. Drilling on the well started in mid-June.

 

E-therapeutics PLC (LON:ETX) said it had passed a key landmark in its collaboration with drug discovery group Galapagos that triggers a milestone payment under its pre-clinical and clinical development agreement. No financial details were given.

FTSE 100’s mood matched the weather with worries over European quarantines due to the Delta variant and Burberry’s shock CEO departure dragging it lower. The blue-chip index shed 27 at 7,108.

 

Burberry chief executive Marco Gobbetti stunned the luxury goods group by announcing he is to leave at the end of the year. He said he wants to move back to Italy and is joining competitor Salvatore Ferragamo where he will be the Milan-listed luxury group’s CEO.

 

Greggs PLC (LON:GRG) said the sales recovery after the lifting of restrictions has been stronger than anticipated. If it were to continue, it would have a “materially positive” impact on the expected financial result for the year said the bakery chain.

 

Britain has banned Binance, the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange over concerns about rising levels of crime. The Financial Conduct Authority said that the firm cannot conduct any "regulated activity" in the UK and issued a warning about its website, Binance.com, and adverts promising high returns on crypto-based investments.

 

The City Pub Group PLC (LON:CPC) is currently trading profitably and at 90% of 2019 levels after reopening 42 out of 48 pubs. The publican is generating cash and is looking at new acquisition opportunities.

 

Caerus Mineral Resources PLC (LON:CMRS) has agreed to buy Cyprus Gold Mines, a private exploration and mining company, for £300,000. The miner is expanding its portfolio in Cyprus.

 

Guild Esports PLC (LON:GILD) has won its third major trophy. Its pro-player TaySon has achieved first place in the Fortnite Champion Series All-Star Showdown last week.

FTSE 100 opened higher after the US agreed a major infrastructure bill last night and the rumoured green list travel changes were confirmed. London’s leading index advanced 10 points to 7,120 in early trading.

 

 Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Amazon Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) are under scrutiny by the UK Competition and Markets Authority over concerns on fake reviews. The tech giants may have not done enough to protect consumers from fake statements, the watchdog said.

 

UDG Healthcare PLC (LON:UDG) has squeezed a few extra pounds out of private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. The provider of services to the pharma industry has asked the bidder to up the offer price to 1,080p per share from 1,023p previously.

 

A test developed by Californian company Grail can find over 50 types of cancer just by using a sample of blood. The NHS will begin a pilot scheme to use it on 140,000 people aged over 50 this year.

 

 Xpediator (LON:XPD) increased its financial guidance for the current year as Covid recovery and Brexit boost boosts trading. The logistics group believes the business can deliver full-year adjusted profit before tax in excess of £8.5mln.

 

Remote Monitored Systems’ (LON:RMS) five-ply version of its Covid-19 anti-viral face mask has been approved by the UK's Regulatory Agency. The mask, developed in collaboration with Volz Filters, has an additional filter after the hydrophobic outer layer.

 

 Strategic Minerals (LON:SML) wants to list its Leigh Creek copper project on the Australian Stock Exchange within a year. Ahead of that, it is looking to raise A$10mln in debt funding to bring the Australian prospect into production in the second half of 2021
